Stop Drinking Water With Your Lunch

ree

When you spend most of your day at the office or in front of a computer, you probably hear people say: “Stay hydrated!” That’s good advice - hydration is important, but here’s the thing: drinking water while you eat isn’t actually helping.

Your stomach needs the right balance of acids and enzymes to break down food. When you drink too much water during a meal, it dilutes those digestive juices, which can leave you feeling bloated, sluggish, or just… off.

Especially during a busy workday, when you’re eating lunch between calls and emails, your body doesn’t get the time it needs to properly process your food.

Here’s a simple approach that works:

Drink before your meal. A glass of water 20–30 minutes before eating helps your body prepare for digestion.

Sip lightly while you eat. If you need water with your meal, take small sips instead of a full glass.

Wait after eating. Give your stomach a chance to absorb nutrients before drinking more.

Small adjustments like this can improve digestion, reduce bloating, and keep your energy steady throughout the afternoon. It’s not about following every tip you hear - it’s about understanding your body and making choices that actually work.

Next time you sit down to eat lunch, ask yourself: are you nourishing your body or just washing it down?

Makes sense?
